Houston is truly a global city. The economy in Houston is very diversified across many industries including energy, transportation, manufacturing, and aeronautics. Houston also has leading health care sectors and building oilfield equipment. In fact, only New York City is the only city with more Fortune 500 headquarters. The Port of Houston ranks first in the United States in international waterborne tonnage handled and second in total cargo tonnage handled. It is not only the economy that is diverse in Houston, but the population as well. Houstonians comprise many different ethnic and religious backgrounds and a substantial community of international people. It is home to many cultural institutions as well, attracting more than seven million visitors a year to the Museum District. The visual and performing arts scene, anchored in the Theatre District is also quite strong.
