55 Water Street, New York, NY 10004 is located on the corner of Water Street and Hanover Square. Completed in 1972, the building stands at 53 floors tall and features over 3,500,000 square feet in office space for rent, making it one of the largest structures in the world. Although an older building, 55 Water Street has undergone various capital improvement plans over the course of its life. The building stands in close proximity to the yellow and red MTA subway line as well as the Staten Island ferry. Hundreds of different restaurants also pepper the surrounding neighborhood. The edifice’s proximity to the other office buildings that surround the neighborhood make this space ideal for an organization needing closeness to partner firms or clients. As a result, such excellent placement adds a significant amount of value for the building’s tenants. When the building was first completed in 1972 it was the largest office building in the world. It currently stands as the largest open office building in New York City, but will soon be overtaken when the new World Trade Center opens later on in 2014.
